Compassionate Guidance to Nourish Recovery
Compassionate Guidance to Nourish Recovery
Helping to support young adults living with eating disorders.
Eating disorders are complex psychological problems that can cause intense distress, considerable physical risk and impairment in people’s social, occupational and other areas of functioning. Eating disorders such as bulimia, anorexia nervosa, binge eating disorder, avoidant/restrictive food intake disorder (ARFID), other specified feeding or eating disorder (OSFED), and atypical eating disorders, also known as, eating disorder not otherwise Specified (EDNOS), adversely affect the quality of life of people living with them and those who care about them. But, with the right treatment and support, recovery is possible.
At Centricorp, we offer compassionate, non-judgmental, and specialised personcentred support for individuals, aged 18 to 65 years, living with an eating disorder, in their homes. The service offers intensive treatment with the aim of avoiding inpatient admission (by recognising at an early stage a decline in physical and mental wellbeing) or supports those who have been an inpatient and tries to prevent readmission.
We recognise that recovery from an eating disorder is not a straightforward path and is much more than food and diet. It’s about supporting the individual on their holistic journey to recovery, including promoting healthy eating habits, self-esteem, and giving them the skills, education, and recreational opportunities that they need to thrive, and to live independently in their own home and community. Our staff will work closely with the service user, family, and healthcare professionals to develop a bespoke approach starting with the creation of the initial Care Plan for each specific individual that we work with to the day-to-day provisions. The Care Plan will take into account factors such as the specific disorder they’re suffering 12 from, their medical history, their age, their weight, and much more, and developing a pathway for the individual to live independently.
Our eating disorder supported living service involves service users, families, carers, and commissioners. Our collaborative approach, which involves service users, families, carers, healthcare professionals and commissioners, ensures that the individual receives holistic care, focusing on their physical, emotional, and psychological health. Importantly, this creates a firm foundation for long-term behavioural changes and equipping with the routines and skills they need to foster an environment that supports recovery.
Our Eating Disorders service will work closely with First Steps ED to provide targeted intensive practical support in the community to enable service users to receive a specialist eating disorders pathway to progress towards recovery. Our service provides supportive interventions which may include: social activities, for example going to the cinema or for a walk, confidence building (around your needs), food shopping, preparing meals, eating at home or in public, volunteering and support to get back into work and/or education.
Centricorp offers a specialised service in assisting and supporting people who have been diagnosed with an eating disorder and require close support during mealtimes in the home.
